Sibelius Society

Objective

The Sibelius Society of Finland was founded in December 1957 as forum to support efforts to keep the musical heritage of Sibelius alive, to make his music more easily available to all who wanted to perform it, and to promote research about Sibelius and his music.

 

The Sibelius society fulfills its mission by

  • ublishing the complete critical edition Jean Sibelius Works together with the Finnish National Library and Breitkopf & Härtel
  • organising the International Jean Sibelius violin competition every five years
  • co-organising the international Sibelius conference
  • organising events and excursions for its members and cooperating with international Sibelius societies
  • Acknowledging individuals who have advanced the music and legacy of Jean Sibelius
  • Organising Sibelius related events and excursions

 

Strategy work

The operational strategy for the society was prepared in 2018 by a work group comprised of Lauri Ratia, Pasi Koivusaari, Päivi Pousar, Lea Rahkonen-Kauranen, Gustav Djupsjöbacka, Timo Virtanen and Tuija Kurvinen of the Sibelius-society board; Aino Porra, Severi Blomstedt and Lauri Porra from the Sibelius family; and Olli-Pekka Martikainen from the Sibelius Academy. The work was facilitated by Anna Granskog and Antti Ryytty from McKinsey & Company.
